PERI-EDU in the Media

InfoDENT24 Highlights PERI-EDU Work on Nutrition and Peri-Implant Tissue Health

The Polish dental news portal InfoDENT24 has published an article presenting educational work developed within the PERI-EDU project and discussing how nutrition, vitamins and patient-related factors may influence inflammation and tissue health around dental implants.

Media coverage: InfoDENT24  |  Topic: nutrition and peri-implantitis  |  PERI-EDU project dissemination
External recognition of the project: the publication introduces a wider professional audience to the PERI-EDU approach, in which peri-implantitis is considered not only as a local biofilm-related complication but also in relation to the patient’s inflammatory response, systemic health, age and lifestyle-related factors.

PERI-EDU research reaches the dental media

InfoDENT24, a Polish portal for dental professionals, has featured material concerning the influence of patient nutrition on peri-implantitis. The article refers to work prepared as part of the project Integrating Peri-Implantitis Research into Higher Education Curriculum (PERI-EDU), co-funded by the European Union under grant agreement No. 2024-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000251208.

The media coverage helps extend the impact of the project beyond academic publications and university teaching. It brings evidence-based information about peri-implant health to clinicians, dental teams and other readers interested in the prevention and management of inflammatory complications around implants.

Nutrition should be viewed as one component of comprehensive peri-implant care – alongside biofilm control, regular professional monitoring, management of systemic risk factors and an early response to inflammation.

What does the featured material emphasize?

Inflammation is multifactorial

Peri-implantitis cannot be explained by a single factor. Local biofilm, the host immune response, systemic conditions, age, lifestyle and the peri-implant environment may interact.

Nutrition may modify tissue response

A balanced diet can support immune regulation, tissue maintenance and bone metabolism. It does not replace oral hygiene, professional maintenance or treatment.

Vitamins require clinical context

The relevance of vitamins and other nutrients depends on actual nutritional status, systemic health and individual risk. Supplementation should not be recommended automatically.

Patient age matters

Age may influence healing, bone metabolism, immune function, diet quality and the presence of chronic diseases, making individualized assessment especially important.

Why is this media coverage important?

One of the central goals of PERI-EDU is to translate current peri-implantitis research into understandable, clinically meaningful educational resources. Coverage by InfoDENT24 supports this objective by increasing the visibility of the project and encouraging discussion about prevention, patient education and interdisciplinary risk assessment.

The article also reinforces an important educational message: there is no single “anti-peri-implantitis diet.” Nutritional advice should complement – not replace – established preventive measures such as effective plaque control, regular supportive peri-implant care, clinical and radiographic monitoring, smoking cessation and appropriate management of systemic diseases.
