
Report on the Inaugural Meeting of the PERI-EDU (formerly B-GAP) Project at the Medical University of Wroclaw
“Integrating Peri-Implantitis Research into Higher Education Curriculum – Developing and Integrating Evidence-Based Teaching Materials and Clinical Tools”
From 14 to 16 January 2025, the Medical University of Wroclaw hosted the kick-off meeting of the Erasmus+ project PERI-EDU (formerly B-GAP) (2024-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000251208). As project coordinator, the University welcomed four distinguished partners:
- Prof. Eduard Valmaseda Castellón (Spain)
- Prof. Anton Sculean (Switzerland)
- Prof. Ricardo Alves (Portugal)
- Dr. Piero Papi (Italy)
14 January 2025
Guests arrived in Wroclaw and were officially received by the International Projects Office of the Medical University. Following hotel check-in, a welcome dinner provided an opportunity for informal introductions and the exchange of preliminary insights.
15 January 2025 – Kick-Off Meeting
The inaugural session convened in the University’s Main Auditorium. Through plenary addresses and breakout workshops, the partners addressed key elements of project implementation:
- Roles and Responsibilities
- The coordinating team outlined its duties and clarified partner obligations.
- Risk Management
- Major risks (data access delays, differing pedagogical approaches) were identified and mitigation strategies proposed.
- Work Plan and Timeline
- Milestones were established: delivery of teaching materials by June 2025 and pilot implementation of clinical tools by year-end 2025.
- Reporting and Finance
- Internal reporting procedures and requirements for the National Agency submission were reviewed, alongside rules for time-tracking and cost eligibility.
- Resource Sharing
- The structure of the shared cloud repository was updated and access rights assigned.
- Subject-Matter Workshops
- Initial sessions focused on standardising peri-implantitis research methods and designing evidence-based e-learning modules.
The meeting concluded with an open forum to refine the course content and schedule forthcoming virtual working sessions.

After a brief debrief in the margins, our international guests departed Wroclaw equipped with clear directives and a shared commitment to the project’s objectives.
The successful launch of B-GAP has established transparent collaboration protocols and a definitive division of tasks. All partners emphasised the importance of the shared repository and regular online meetings as critical to meeting project deadlines. The expertise and dedication demonstrated by all participants herald a productive and impactful partnership in the months ahead.
