On 29 May 2026, members of the PERI-EDU consortium participated in the scientific programme of the Wrocław Implantology Days 2026 conference, entitled “Quo Vadis Implantologio?”. The conference provided an important platform for presenting and discussing topics directly related to the PERI-EDU project, including peri-implantitis, systemic risk factors, obesity, prevention, treatment options, and future directions in implant dentistry.
During the scientific session, several lectures addressed issues closely connected with the objectives of the PERI-EDU project:
“Periimplantitis and obesity” – Prof. Marzena Dominiak and Victor Geller
“Periimplantitis – what do we know and what do we not know?” – Prof. Marzena Dominiak and Prof. Wojciech Simka
“Treatment options and outcomes in peri-implant surgery” – Prof. Eduard Valmaseda-Castellón
“Prevention of peri-implantitis” – Prof. Ricardo Castro Alves

The session concluded with a panel discussion involving representatives of the PERI-EDU consortium and invited experts: Prof. Marzena Dominiak, Prof. Ricardo Castro Alves, Prof. Eduard Valmaseda-Castellón, Prof. Wojciech Simka, Dr hab. Paweł Kubasiewicz-Ross, Dr hab. Jacek Matys and biotechnologist Victor Geller. The panel was moderated by Prof. Preetinder Singh. The discussion focused on current challenges in peri-implantitis diagnostics and treatment, systemic determinants of peri-implant inflammation, prevention strategies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the need to translate current research findings into dental education and clinical practice.
As part of the conference activities, the PERI-EDU project was also presented in poster form. The poster entitled “Er:YAG Laser-Assisted Explantation of an Implant Affected by Advanced Peri-Implantitis: A Case Report” presented a clinical case report conducted within the PERI-EDU project. The presentation described the surgical management of advanced active peri-implantitis using Er:YAG laser-assisted debridement and decontamination after implant removal, together with the evaluation of CBC-derived inflammatory indices. The poster highlighted the clinical and educational relevance of integrating peri-implantitis research, laser-assisted treatment protocols, and systemic inflammatory assessment into higher education and professional training.
On the same day, a three-hour PERI-EDU consortium meeting was held in Wrocław. The meeting was opened by Vice-Rector Prof. Marzena Dominiak and focused on the current implementation status of key project work packages and future activities.
The consortium reviewed progress in WP3 – Data Collection and Analysis, including the current status of patient recruitment, collected blood samples, planned activities for the next three months, and the organisation of the control group. The partners also discussed WP4 – Development of Educational Materials and Training Programs, including the preparation of written materials, multimedia content, e-learning modules, training programmes, and the current development of the project website and online resources. The final part of the meeting was devoted to WP5 – Dissemination, including conference presentations, courses, workshops, seminars, scientific publications, and social media activities.
The meeting provided an opportunity to summarise the progress achieved so far, align the responsibilities of partner institutions, and define the next steps for the further implementation of the PERI-EDU project.
