PERI-EDU took part in the 9th Congress of the Polish Dental Association, bringing peri-implant disease into an interdisciplinary discussion that connected clinical dentistry, implant-surface science and biotechnology. The congress was held on 17–19 September 2026 at Ptak Warsaw Expo in Nadarzyn, Poland.
PERI-EDU panel: from prevention to advanced treatment
The panel focused on peri-implantitis as one of the major challenges in contemporary regenerative medicine and dentistry. The presentations examined how early diagnosis, implant materials and modern treatment methods can be integrated into more predictable clinical decision-making.
Prof. Marzena Dominiak
Prevention, early recognition of peri-implant inflammation and clinical decision-making in complex cases.
Jacek Matys, DMD, PhD, DSc
Laser Therapy and Surgical Procedures — modern decontamination strategies and surgical management of peri-implantitis.
Victor Geller, MSc
Blood-derived inflammatory indices and their cautious interpretation when assessing systemic inflammatory context in peri-implant disease.

The discussion covered the latest approaches to prevention and early diagnosis of inflammatory conditions around dental implants, the influence of implant-surface modification on the development and treatment of peri-implantitis, laser-assisted and surgical procedures, and the interpretation of difficult cases encountered in daily practice.

Watch the presentations from the PERI-EDU panel
Recordings of the three presentations delivered during the PERI-EDU panel are available below. Together, they connect prevention and early diagnosis, systemic inflammatory assessment, and contemporary clinical treatment of peri-implantitis.
Prevention and early diagnosis of peri-implant inflammation
Prof. Marzena Dominiak presents contemporary strategies for preventing inflammatory conditions around dental implants and recognising disease at an early stage.
Blood-derived inflammatory indices in peri-implant disease
Victor Geller, MSc, biotechnologist, discusses inflammatory biomarkers obtained from blood and their potential role and limitations in assessing inflammation associated with peri-implant tissues.
Modern peri-implantitis treatment: laser therapy and surgical procedures
Jacek Matys, DMD, PhD, DSc, presents contemporary peri-implantitis treatment strategies, with particular emphasis on laser-assisted decontamination and surgical procedures.
PERI-EDU research in the congress poster session
The scientific programme was complemented by a poster session. Eleven abstracts connected with the Erasmus+ PERI-EDU project addressed systemic risk factors, regenerative treatment, peri-implant soft tissues, laser applications, implant-surface engineering and diagnostic biomarkers:
- P01 Obesity and jaw bone: marrow adiposity, bone remodeling, medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, and surgical risk — a narrative review.
- P02 Autologous platelet-derived fibrin matrices in reconstructive surgical treatment of peri-implantitis — a systematic review and exploratory meta-analysis.
- P05 Osteolytic lesions in the maxilla and mandible suspected of fatty bone marrow degeneration: prevalence and association with systemic diseases in a retrospective cone beam computed tomography study.
- P06 Fatty degenerative osteonecrosis of the jaw: bridging molecular insights and clinical practice — a scoping review.
- P07 Are peri-implant soft-tissue phenotype dimensions associated with subsequent peri-implant diseases and marginal bone-level changes?
- P08 Biological response of fibroblasts to laser-modified titanium surfaces: a systematic review.
- P09 Biological response of fibroblasts to laser-treated zirconia surfaces: a systematic review.
- P10 Microbiological effects of different dental laser wavelengths in the treatment of peri-implantitis: a systematic review.
- P11 Osteoblast response to hydroxyapatite-functionalized titanium-based implants: a systematic review.
- P12 The role of calcium phosphate coatings in promoting osseointegration of zirconia implants: a systematic review.
- P13 MicroRNAs in biological fluids and peri-implant tissues as potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of peri-implant diseases: a systematic review.
Poster abstracts published in the Journal of Stomatology
The congress poster abstracts were published in the Journal of Stomatology, 2026, Volume 79, Number 3, Supplement 1. The publication documents the scientific scope of the session and makes the presented research accessible to the wider dental community.
Participation in the congress strengthened the connection between PERI-EDU’s educational work and current scientific research, while supporting the exchange of knowledge between clinicians, researchers and specialists in biotechnology.
